Please note, there are lots of different factors that can lower or raise your chances of conceiving, we recommend working with a certified Marquette Instructor to understand your specific situation!
Marquette Method Certified Professionals (MMCPs) are healthcare professionals who have taken additional classes and have been certified by the Marquette Method Professional Association.
Accuracy is dependent on correct use of the method as taught by our MMCPs. Choosing to forgo taking a class with an instructor would limit your understanding and ability to interpret your chart, potentially reducing how well you would be able to achieve or avoid pregnancy.

The Marquette Method’s algorithm is based on the peak day of fertility. The Marquette Institute for Natural Family Planning has conducted studies and created protocol using the Clearblue Fertility Monitor to detect this peak. While we recommend using Clearblue, there are other urine hormone monitoring options that identify peak fertility. Marquette Method Pro allows the user to chart Clearblue monitor results, quantitative hormone test results, +/- ovulation (LH) tests, and basal body temperature. Marquette instructors also teach the user to identify peak fertility using observable biological markers. Speak with your Instructor for more information!
Initially, Marquette NFP Pro will not support charting for irregular or postpartum/breastfeeding cycles. However, we are working hard to add these protocols to the app! The Marquette Method itself does have protocols for those in non-regular reproductive categories, and your Marquette Instructor will be able to assist you until these features are supported in the app. To be notified when these protocols are added, get on our list!
The Marquette Method relies on observing biological markers to track fertility and hormone testing for a rise in LH. The only required cost is a class. Although not required, we recommend purchasing a monitor (one time purchase) and monthly test strips. A subscription to Marquette NFP Pro ($9.99/month or $59.99/year) will help you chart and ensure accuracy, but charting with the Marquette Method can be done by hand. The price of using the method varies depending on the markers you choose to track and the additional tools you choose to use such as the app and/or a fertility monitor.
No! While the Marquette Method and Marquette NFP Pro were developed by Catholics and align with Church teachings on sexuality, they are designed to be effectively used by anyone. The method itself does not require the practice of any particular faith. The Institute for Natural Family Planning’s ongoing research into fertility and women’s health hopes to benefit all users regardless of their religious beliefs.
